In the state of South Dakota a
concealed pistol may be carried with a valid concealed
pistol permit honored in South Dakota and that is
allowed by state and local laws.
Some, not all,
South Dakota state laws are posted below.

No person may discharge a
firearm while on that portion of public waters of
this state that inundate privately-owned property
from a location which is within 660 feet of an
occupied dwelling, church, schoolhouse, or livestock
being held in a confined area according to standard
animal husbandry practices. However, a landowner or
any person receiving permission from the landowner
may discharge a firearm while on that portion of
public waters that inundate the private property of
that landowner. (SDCL 41-9-1.4)
- No
person may possess any firearm in a courthouse, at
any school, or parking lot of a school (vehicles are
included). (SDCL 13-32-7 and SDCL 22-14-23)

Any type of firearm cannot be carried on a
snowmobile unless the firearm is COMPLETELY
UNLOADED AND ENCASED! (SDCL 32-20A-11)
- No
person who has the intent to commit a felony may
carry a weapon. (SDCL 22-14-8)

Any intoxicated person MAY NOT carry a firearm.
(SDCL 22-14-7) No person may possess a firearm while
in an alcohol establishment (example: bar) which
derives over one half of its income from the sale of
malt or alcoholic beverages.

- No
person may fire or discharge a weapon or firearm
from a vehicle that is moving or at an occupied
structure. (SDCL 22-14-20 and SDCL 22-14-21)
- A
firearm with an altered serial number MAY NOT be
possess by any person. (SDCL 22-14-5)
- No
person may provide a weapon or firearm to another
person prohibited by law from such possession. (SDCL
22-14-16)

You do not need a concealed pistol permit in your
own home, your property, your place of business, any
closed and locked compartment of a vehicle, or in a
closed container which will be too large to be
effectively concealed from a person's clothing.

- No
person may sell, transfer, give, loan, furnish, or
deliver a firearm or firearm ammunition to any
person under the age of eighteen years if
such person knows or reasonably believes that the
minor recipient of the transfer intended, at the
time of transfer, to use the firearm or ammunition
in the commission or attempted commission of a crime
of violence as defined in subdivision 22-1-2(9).
