Hamlin County Sheriff's Office 
Sex Offenders
Under South Dakota State Law, anyone that is convicted of a certain sex crime must register with their name and address to the local law enforcement department within 5-days of moving into the county. They also must register twice a year with their local law enforcement department. Currently four registered sex offenders live in Hamlin County.

The Hamlin County Sheriff's Office keeps record of all sex offenders that live in the County. State law allows information about where a sex offender lives to be public knowledge. If you would like information, please stop by the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office during normal businesses hours (Monday - Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM Central Time). You may check the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation Sex Offender web-site for locations of sex offenders that live in South Dakota, including Hamlin County.
 
Community Safety Zone:  the area that lies within 500 feet from the facilities and grounds of any school, public park, public playground, or public pool, including the facilities and grounds itself. (SDCL 22-24B-22)   Any person who is required to register as a sex offender may NOT establish or reside within a "community safety zone," as posted above, UNLESS...  1) incarcerated in jail or prison which is within the safety zone.  2) placed in a health care facility, or receiving services from a community service that is certified by the Department of Human Services which is located in a safety zone.  3)  if the person is under the age of 18 at the time of the offense and the offender was not tried and convicted of the offense as an adult (must be tried as an adult or the community safety zone does not apply!).   4) if the person had established residence before July 1st, 2006.  5) if a school, public park, public pool, or public playground was built after the person has established residence. or 6) The circuit court has entered an order pursuant to § 22-24B-28 exempting the offender from the provisions of §§ 22-24B-22 to 22-24B-28, inclusive.  (SDCL 22-24B-23)
 
NOTICE:  Any person that uses information contained through the Hamlin County Website and the South Dakota State Sex Offender Website to threaten, intimidate, or harass any person, which includes their families or who misuses this information may charged with a class 6 felony ($2,000 Fine and/or 2 Years).
