Sheriff
Dan T. Mack
has been with the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office since 1976. He was
a deputy sheriff with the department from 1976 until 1979 before he
ran for Sheriff. He was elected into office the fall of 1979 and has
held the position to this day. Sheriff Mack is a member of the South
Dakota Sheriff's Association and was president during the year of
1986. Sheriff Mack is also certified in
HazMat
Printing, does employment
fingerprinting, civil fingerprinting, investigate crimes,
investigate accidents, does
office budget, assists in the 24-7 program,
works on execution of judgment and other law
enforcement duties. During his time off, Sheriff Mack likes to spend time fishing, camping, boating and being with
friends and family.
Sheriff Mack and his
wife, Louise, ran the sheriff’s office by themselves for many
years. Now, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office has three full-time
deputies with the help of four communities contract services. Louise
had worked for the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office for over 30 years
as the department's secretary and record keeper.

Chief Deputy Schlotterbeck
has been working in law enforcement for over 16 years and became a
full-time deputy in 2001. He became Chief Deputy in
2003 and remains at position at the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office.
Before working for the sheriff's office, he was the police chief of
the Castlewood Police
Department and was the acting chief of the Estelline Police Department. Deputy Schlotterbeck also served in the US Air Force
for many years before moving back to South Dakota. Chief
Deputy Schlotterbeck leads the department in criminal
investigations, does sex offenders registrations, operates the 24-7
alcohol program, works on department's vehicles,
assist in NIBRS, does
traffic enforcement and
works on many different projects within the department.
Deputy Steffensen has been with the
sheriff's office since summer of 2003. He worked at the Estelline
Police Department before becoming a full-time deputy sheriff with
the Hamlin County Sheriff's Office. Deputy Steffensen works on
civil / criminal paper services, traffic enforcement, security for
the courts, does criminal / traffic
investigations and assists in the 24-7 program.
During his off time, Deputy Steffensen likes to fish, hunt, camp and spend
time with the family.

Since 2005, Deputy
Alexander has been a deputy sheriff with the Hamlin County
Sheriff's Office. He got his Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement
Technology at Western Dakota Technical Institute in Rapid City,
South Dakota before becoming a deputy with the county. He was also
an Explorer Captain and Lieutenant at the Brookings Police
Department Explorer Post for about four years. Deputy
Alexander works on grants for the department, traffic enforcement,
highway safety officer, NIBRS, criminal/traffic stats, investigates
crimes / traffic accidents, assist in the 24-7 program, works on
department's vehicles and many other project within the office.
During Deputy Alexander's time off, he likes to spend time with
family, go camping and enjoys time at the lake.
