Winter Weather Survival Kits:
There are many different cases out there that winter weather survival kits have saved many lives.  In South Dakota, winter storms can come up in a short period of time with little warning.  When making a winter weather survival kit, make sure that you have enough supplies to survival on since you may be stranded for a few days.  While making your survival kit, remember these items…

·  Winter StormSleeping Bag and/or Blanket to keep warm.

·  Shovel, Tow Rope, and Jumper Cables

·  Sand or Cat Litter

·  Flashlight and Warning Lights (Flares)

·  Something Bright to use as a Flag (Red, Orange, Etc)

·  First Aid Kit

·  Non-Perishable Food (Candy Bar, Coffee, Soup, Etc)

·  Water

·  Fire Extinguisher, Candles, and Matches

·  Extra Clothing and Socks

·  Medication or Anything Else That You May Need.

Remember, if you do become stranded, stay in your car.  It will remain much warmer and better to locate.  Your vehicle is much bigger than an individual person.  When you are traveling make sure you leave a travel route with someone and stay on that route.  Check in with somebody every few hours on longer trips. This will shorten the search area if you do become stranded. Have your cell phone fully charge so you’re able to call for help.  The best action is to remain home during a winter storm and call 511 or check our road conditions information before heading out.
